Casa Arrona Oaxaca
In the heart of Oaxaca’s Historic Center, along the alleyway of Boca del Monte, lies Casa Arrona: a contemporary guesthouse deeply rooted in local history. Acquired in 1953, the property was for decades both home and guesthouse; today it has been delicately restored with a contemporary vision, reborn as an intimate space that honors its past and the lineage of women who, generation after generation, turned hospitality into an art of warmth and elegance.
The project is the result of the collaboration between Vicente Reyes, Oaxacan, founder of Hermano Maguey and fourth generation in this house; and Raúl Cabra, designer and founder of Oaxifornia and La Embajada, recognized for projects such as Casa Oaxaca, Casa Dragones, and Rubra Palapa Bar. Together they envisioned an experience where memory and contemporary aesthetics engage in dialogue, deeply rooted in local heritage.
Its design blends the elegance of mid-20th-century Oaxacan architecture with a serene, contemporary sensibility attentive to detail. The spaces are furnished with carefully selected mid-century modern pieces that create an atmosphere of warmth and understated sophistication. The house also showcases lighting and objects created by Verónica Valdés, creative director of FIBRA, a Hermano Maguey project that transforms the fibers of espadín agave leaves —a byproduct of the mezcal industry— into sustainable, organic pieces.
With seven rooms arranged around a central patio that reimagines the traditional Mexican vecindad, Casa Arrona offers an intimate refuge where shared and private spaces coexist in balance. Each corner is designed to invite mindful rest, contemplation, and a slower pace of life. Just a few blocks from the Templo de Santo Domingo, the experience celebrates what is essential: legacy, rest, and care.
“Boca del Monte is not just an alleyway: it is a threshold between neighborhoods, where time slows down and silence holds memory.” —Vicente Reyes, Casa Arrona
